Electric Rail From Ain Sokhna to 6th October Launches Pilot in 2027
This line is part of a larger framework that links Ain Sokhna to Matrouh, spanning roughly 670 kilometres and encompassing 21 stations.

The National Authority for Tunnels has confirmed the pilot operation of the new electric high-speed rail line between Ain Sokhna and 6th October City is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. This line is part of a larger framework that links Ain Sokhna to Matrouh, spanning roughly 670 kilometres and encompassing 21 stations. The rail network will integrate with existing systems: the central station in the New Administrative Capital will connect with the light rail network, and the 6th October station will interface with the city's monorail system. A major maintenance workshop is planned in 6th October, with a secondary facility in Qena to support additional network segments. According to the National Authority for Tunnels, station construction along the first line is 60–75% complete. Mechanical and electrical system installations are underway, led by a consortium of Egyptian firms with support from Deutsche as the systems operator. Future phases will extend operations from 6th October to Borg El Arab, and later onward to Matrouh, placing the full line among Egypt’s most ambitious transport upgrades. Officials say this project not only reduces travel times dramatically—targeting speeds up to 230 km/h—but also integrates a freight function linking marine and land logistics corridors. As of now, the network will consist of three lines spanning 2,000 kilometres in total—one from Ain Sokhna to Matrouh, another from 6 October to Abu Simbel over 1,100 km, and a third linking Hurghada and Safaga into the system.
