Al Ahly SC Signs Former NBA Player Zach Lofton Ahead of BAL Season 6

Al Ahly Basketball has signed American guard Zach Lofton ahead of Season 6 of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), as the club continues shaping its roster for the upcoming campaign.

The signing was confirmed by Lofton’s representation, The Crew Athlete Management, in a post shared on Instagram.

Lofton, 33, most recently played for Homentmen in the Lebanese league, where he appeared in two games this season and averaged 15.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.0 steal per game. Earlier in the same season, he also featured for Taishin Mars in Taiwan.

The guard has built a widely travelled professional career across Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America. His previous teams include Bahrain’s Al Muharraq, China’s Liaoning, Germany’s professional leagues, Kuwait’s Kazma, the Philippines’ Meralco Bolts, and Libyan clubs Al Ittihad and Al Ahly Benghazi.

He also played in the NBA G League with the Grand Rapids Gold and participated in NBA Summer League with the Milwaukee Bucks. Among his recent honours, Lofton won the Bahrain League championship in 2025. In the same year, he was named Asia-Basket.com All-Lebanese League Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

Before turning professional, Lofton played college basketball at New Mexico State University, graduating in 2018. During his college career, he also represented Texas Southern University, the University of Minnesota, Illinois State University, and San Jacinto College.
