Egyptian Drug Authority Completes Pharmaceutical Traceability Guide
The guide sets rules for manufacturers pharmacies and distributors in Egypt to track medicines from production to patients.

The Egyptian Drug Authority has completed the regulatory guide for implementing the pharmaceutical traceability system across manufacturers, pharmacies and distribution companies in Egypt. The system is designed to track medicines end-to-end from production to the patient.
The guide sets out how all parties in the pharmaceutical supply chain should implement traceability, with a focus on coordinating efforts among stakeholders to deliver the project in line with the set timetable. The stated objectives include strengthening medicine safety, protecting patients from counterfeit or non-compliant products and enhancing oversight from factories to points of sale. The authority said it aims to support pharmacists in applying the new system within daily practice.
The Egyptian Drug Authority added that the project is a key step in developing the medicine supply network and improving the efficiency of distribution chains, with the private sector described as a core partner. Companies are preparing internal infrastructure to meet the system’s requirements, and the authority said it will provide technical support and work to remove obstacles during rollout. It said the approach is intended to ensure reliable availability of safe and effective medicines for patients.
The traceability system was described as a technical framework that monitors the supply chain to prevent counterfeit or expired medicines from entering the market, ensuring quality and integrity from production to the end consumer.
