British-Egyptian politician, former prosecution lawyer and former Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor Laila Cunningham is officially on track to run in the 2028 London mayoral elections. Born in the UK to Egyptian immigrant parents, Cunningham will represent anti-immigration party Reform in the 2028 elections.
Cunningham was elected to Westminster City Council in 2022 for the Conservative Party, before defecting to Reform UK in 2025, becoming the party's first representative in a London borough council. At the announcement, the politician states her top priority would be doubling down on London crime, and ensuring that newcomers to the city “embrace British culture”.
