AlUla Program Teaches Residents Ancient Languages of the Region
A new initiative puts out courses in ancient scripts to revive AlUla’s heritage.

The AlUla Languages Institute, operating under the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU), has launched the Reviving Ancient Languages Program, a new educational initiative aimed at reconnecting residents with the region’s linguistic past. The program is intended to raise awareness of AlUla’s historical language diversity and offer structured learning opportunities for those interested in engaging with ancient scripts and inscriptions.
Courses will include instruction in a range of ancient languages historically used in the area, such as Aramaic, Thamudic, Dadanitic, Lihyanite, Musnad-al-Janubi, and Nabataean. In addition, a dedicated course will explore the origins of writing itself, offering broader historical context to participants.
Designed primarily for residents of AlUla, the program seeks to encourage deeper interaction with the cultural and archaeological legacy of the region. Registration for the courses opened on Sunday and is available through the AlUla Languages Institute’s official website.
