118 New Animal Species to Enhance Biodiversity at Giza Zoo
The plan includes four lions, three tigers and 362 additional animals sourced from multiple countries.
Giza Zoo will receive 118 new animal species to enhance on-site biodiversity as part of a development programme led by Hadayek, the company developing and operating Giza Zoo and Orman Garden. Mohamed Kamel, Chairman of the Board at Hadayek, announced that the species will be sourced from multiple countries and added to current collections. The plan includes four lions and three tigers, alongside importing 362 additional animals, with habitats designed as open, species-appropriate environments. Giza Zoo and Orman Garden are being integrated as a continuous landscape to create a wider, connected environmental zone aimed at improving visitor access and experience within what is described as the largest open green space in the heart of Giza. The design approach focuses on shifting viewing toward an interactive and comfortable experience aligned with international standards. A representative of the African Union Association reviewed the plans and commented that the development aligns with international best practices for managing and operating zoological parks. The project is designed to preserve the historical and architectural character of the zoo, with the development aiming to restore its regional and international standing as a recreational and educational destination.
