160-Year-Old Prophet's Mosque Clock Goes on Display in Makkah
Believed to date back to 1860, the historic clock highlights the evolution of timekeeping at the Prophet's Mosque.
A rare historic clock that once kept time at the Prophet's Mosque is now on display at the Exhibition of the Two Holy Mosques Architecture in Makkah, where it is being showcased as one of the exhibition's most significant historical artefacts.
Believed to date back to 1277 AH (1860 AD), the clock documents the development of timekeeping at the Prophet's Mosque during the 13th century AH. It was used to help organise prayer times and acts of worship, with its craftsmanship reflecting the technical and artistic standards of the period.
The exhibition features a collection of rare artefacts linked to the history, architecture and care of the Two Holy Mosques, offering visitors a closer look at the evolution of the sacred sites over the centuries. It also highlights expansion projects, development initiatives and services introduced during the Saudi era to accommodate growing numbers of worshippers and visitors.
