On a rainy day in Downtown Cairo, sometimes the city looks better in reverse. Taken on January 1st, 2016, just after the rain had stopped, this photograph by Egyptian-Algerian cinematographer, camera operator and photographer Ibrahim Khaled finds a different perspective of the city in the puddles left behind.
Khaled is an Egyptian-Algerian cinematographer, camera operator, and photographer, driven by a passion for visual storytelling through cinematic lighting and composition. He is particularly interested in the rhythm of the city, its people, streets, shadows, reflections, and even its still buildings and structures.
Where and when was this image taken?
January 1st, 2016, on a rainy day in Downtown Cairo. The rain had just stopped, leaving puddles everywhere. What caught my eye wasn’t the buildings or the cars, but the reflections. Everywhere I looked, they revealed a completely different perspective of the city, one I had never noticed before.
Why did you choose this particular image?
I chose this image because it reminds me of where I started, who I was, and the journey that brought me to where I am today. It taught me that creativity has no type, shape, or limit. Sometimes, all it takes is looking at something familiar from a different angle to discover an entirely new story, like a puddle after a rainy day.
