Egypt’s Daniela Ashba Sews Sensual Motifs into Her Newest Collection

Within the realm of stories, fables, and myths lies a tapestry of inspiration that transcends time. From the majestic reign of Hatchepsut and the mystical allure of the desert to the enchanting tales shared by grandmothers recounting wild nights in the '70s - these narratives weave the threads that kindle imagination and artistic creation. Such captivating tales serve as the driving force behind Daniela Ashba's latest collection, 'Kama Kan’.

Meticulous attention to detail defines Daniela Ashba's approach, effortlessly blending simplicity with ingenious touches. As a German-Egyptian designer, the 23-year-old Ashba spent her formative years in Egypt before venturing to Italy, where she earned her bachelor's degree in fashion design from the renowned Polimoda Fashion School.

"I never fully connected with every aspect of both cultures, which, I believe, cultivated a deeper appreciation for them - particularly as German and Egyptian cultures diverge so remarkably," Ashba tells Scene Styled. Like many from diverse backgrounds, she often felt a sense of detachment, grappling with her identity and experiencing a perpetual sense of being an outsider. Yet, it was precisely this struggle that propelled her and kindled her artistic spirit. "Many of my pieces feature borders - a symbol of our tendency to distance ourselves from our cultures rather than embracing them. Once you recognize the uniqueness of being exposed to multiple cultures and growing up within them, it opens the door to creative possibilities when sharing them with others."

Ashba's aesthetic dances between femininity and ethereal reverie. "They are pieces you dream in - sometimes, you need a moment to reflect on your past, acknowledge your achievements, and envision your future growth. That's where the title of my latest show, Kama Kan, originated."

Kama Kan, showcased at Egypt Fashion Week, draws inspiration from both ancient and contemporary Egyptian culture, merging the timeless allure of Hatchepsut - a figure Ashba deeply admires - with the vibrant fashion of the '70s, replete with mini skirts and psychedelic prints.

"My experience at Egypt Fashion Week was a revelation,” Ashba continues. “Being part of such an opportunity and receiving exposure was truly remarkable. Egypt brims with untapped potential, and it is high time to showcase how our heritage can shape something new and extraordinary."

Ashba's mission revolves around designing robust, commanding, and comfortable garments that instill confidence in the wearer, harmoniously merging dreamlike aesthetics with history and identity. She creates garments that bridge the past and pave the way for the future, intertwining threads of heritage and innovation.
