Egypt Wins First-Ever World University Finswimming Championship
Hosted in Sharm El Sheikh, the six-day championship saw Egypt top the overall medal standings with seven gold, nine silver and three bronze medals.
Egypt has claimed its first-ever World University Finswimming Championship title, finishing top of the overall medal standings with 19 medals at the 2026 edition, held in Sharm El Sheikh from October 25th to 30th, 2026.
The Egyptian team secured seven gold, nine silver and three bronze medals across the competition, which brought together university athletes to compete in finswimming, a discipline that combines swimming with specialised fins to propel athletes through the water at high speeds.
Unlike conventional swimming, finswimming features different techniques and equipment, including monofins, which allow swimmers to move using a dolphin-like kick, and bifins, which resemble traditional swimming fins.
China finished second in the overall standings with seven medals, including four gold and three silver, while Italy took third place with nine medals, comprising three gold, four silver and two bronze.
