For this installment of our Shuffle playlist, the SceneNoise team brings you a curated selection of the best tracks released over the past fortnight from across the Middle East and North Africa region and its diaspora. The playlist is packed with various sounds from indie-pop and R&B to shaabi, electronic, and everything in between.

Our cover star this time is Egyptian singer-songwriter Donia Wael, who has been making a lot of noise over the past week with a flurry of new releases, some featuring collaborations with rap superstar Marwan Moussa, not once but twice. Now, Donia is reuniting with her longtime collaborator El Waili on a new track, ‘Moshkela’, the second preview single of her forthcoming EP. The track kicks with ukulele strings and plucks that punctuate Donia’s introspective lyricism and soulful vocals, before unfurling into a lucid keys progression and dreamy soundscapes with soft drops.

The playlist features Dutch-Moroccan artist Roufaida with ‘Ken Ness’, a second preview single from her upcoming album, ‘Coming up for Air’. The track is a heartfelt ode to Palestinian resistance based on a poem by the late Palestinian poet and author Mahmoud Darwish, titled ‘نسافر كالناس’, merging bilingual lyricism with a fusion of afrobeats influences and pop sensibilities. The video accompanying the track, shot by Palestinian artists Yousef Mashharawi and Mohamed Yaghi, features footage of Gaza shortly after the Israeli armed forces broke the ceasefire.

Next up on the list is Egyptian electronic virtuoso Fulltone and French DJ/producer duo Parallelle with a joint track, ‘Shining in the Dark’, featuring soul singer Barbara Lau. As nostalgic as it is innovative, the track is a compelling spin on nu-disco, packed with fat, funky lead lines and analogue-effected experimental loops.

The playlist also features new music from Kozbara with a tongue-in-cheek tune, ‘Enta Msh Gy Maya’, Sound of Ruby with ‘The Hospital Song’, Ilham with ‘Make the Room Look Twice, and Bayou teaming up with Saudi rapper DJmubarak on ‘Ya Zeina’. TRACKLIST: Donia Wael - Moshkela
