KAUST Launches Global Coral Restoration Training Programme

The G20 Coral Research and Development Accelerator Platform at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology has launched a global Coral Restoration Course aimed at strengthening practical skills in marine ecosystem protection.

The first training session was held in Rabigh and focused on coral reef research and restoration in the Red Sea, which researchers describe as a particularly resilient coral environment. Experts from national marine environmental agencies took part in the programme.

Delivered in partnership with the Energy and Water Academy and supported by ACWA Power, the course combines scientific research with practical field training. Participants receive instruction in coral planting techniques, reef rehabilitation, and habitat enhancement methods.

The programme also included scientific visits examining ongoing coral reef research projects. Sessions were led by specialists from Ocean Revive and the Coralium Lab, blending classroom instruction with field-based learning. Participants from organisations including Red Sea Global and the National Center for Wildlife joined the programme to build practical expertise in coral restoration techniques.
