Women-Only Buses Begin Operating on Egypt’s Ring Road For First Time
A dedicated women-only service will run every 15 minutes during morning and evening peak periods.
A women-only bus service has been introduced on Cairo’s Ring Road as part of the Bus Rapid Transit system, with buses scheduled every 15 minutes during morning and evening peak hours.
According to the Egyptian Bus Rapid Transit company, the dedicated service is being piloted in response to passenger requests.
The company also published a video on its official Facebook page featuring women welcoming the initiative. Officials said the bus rapid transit network is intended to provide a faster, safer, and more environmentally friendly public transport option while encouraging commuters to shift away from private car use under the broader plans of the Ministry of Transport.
The company added that the system is designed to reduce congestion and fuel consumption while improving mobility across Greater Cairo through a fleet of locally manufactured electric buses.
The corridor links several major intersections along the Ring Road, including the Suez interchange, Adly Mansour, El Marg, and Mostorod. The network also connects with other transport systems across the capital, interchanging with Cairo Metro Line 1 at Zahraa and El Marg, Line 3 at Adly Mansour and Imbaba, and the light rail transit system at Adly Mansour.
