Women Compete in King Abdulaziz Qur’an Competition for First Time
The 46th edition brought together 334 male and female contestants from 133 countries, with 50 winners to share SAR 10.26 million in prizes.
Female contestants are participating in the King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorisation, Recitation and Interpretation of the Holy Qur’an for the first time in its history, as the 46th edition concludes in Makkah.
A total of 334 male and female contestants from 133 countries took part in the final rounds at the Grand Mosque, competing before specialised Saudi and international judging panels.
The competition features five categories covering memorisation of the entire Qur’an with recitation, tajweed and qira’at; memorisation of the entire Qur’an with recitation, tajweed and interpretation; and memorisation of 20, 15 or five consecutive juz’ with recitation and tajweed.
This year, the number of winners has increased to 50, with five male and five female winners in each category. Total prize money stands at SAR 10.26 million.
