Suez Canal Tax Revenue Rises 20% to USD 2 Billion in 11 Months
Tax receipts from the canal increased by nearly USD 338 million during the first 11 months of FY2025-2026.
Tax revenue generated from the Suez Canal reached USD 2 billion during the first 11 months of fiscal year 2025-2026, up 20% from USD 1.66 billion during the same period a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Finance.
The increase amounted to USD 337.9 million, with tax receipts rising to EGP 100.7 billion from EGP 83.7 billion during the corresponding period of FY2024-2025.
Separate data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed that Suez Canal revenues totalled around USD 2 billion during the first five months of 2026, compared with USD 1.6 billion over the same period in 2025.
Traffic through the canal also continued to strengthen. In May 2026, the number of oil tankers transiting the waterway increased 20% year-on-year to 512, while the number of other vessels rose 11% to 678.
Monthly canal revenue reached USD 415 million in May 2026, up from April and marking the highest monthly level since February 2024. Combined revenue for April and May totalled USD 825 million, with both months recording more than USD 400 million in receipts.
