Suez Canal Revenues Rise 57% Year-on-Year in August 2026

Suez Canal revenues reached USD 567.1 million in August 2026, up 56.7% from $326 million in the same month last year, according to Suez Canal Authority Chairperson Osama Rabie.

A total of 1,358 vessels transited the canal during the month, compared with 1,070 in August 2025, representing a 27% annual increase. Net tonnage rose 51.1% from 45.2 million tonnes to 68.3 million tonnes.

Rabie disclosed the figures during Egypt’s World Maritime Day 2026 event in Alexandria, where he said geopolitical tensions and disruptions to global trade had affected canal traffic in recent years.

Alongside canal transit, the authority has been expanding services offered to shipping lines and vessels, including shipbuilding and repairs, marine fuel bunkering, marine ambulance services and crew changes. Rabie also said work is underway to develop shipyards and affiliated companies and increase private-sector partnerships in maritime industries.

The authority has also begun providing maritime expertise outside the canal. It participated in the development of Libya’s Port of Sirte, which reopened after 14 years, and developed a simulation model for Saudi Arabia’s Ras Al-Khair Port through its Maritime Training and Simulation Academy.

Rabie said negotiations are also underway to develop simulation models for two ports in Namibia and provide training for local maritime pilots and tugboat captains.
