Heatwave to Peak Tuesday Before Temperatures Begin to Ease
Much of Egypt is set to see highs of up to 42°C, with humidity making it feel even hotter.
Egypt's ongoing heatwave is expected to reach its peak on Tuesday, August 11th, with temperatures climbing to around 42°C in parts of the country and humidity pushing perceived temperatures even higher, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority.
In Greater Cairo, temperatures are forecast to reach around 40°C, although high humidity is expected to make conditions feel closer to 42°C. In southern Upper Egypt, highs are expected to reach 42°C, with perceived temperatures rising to around 43°C.
Conditions are forecast to gradually improve from Wednesday through Sunday. In Cairo, daytime highs are expected to ease from around 40°C on Wednesday to approximately 36°C by Sunday. Along the North Coast, including Alexandria, temperatures are forecast to hover around 31°C, though humidity could make it feel closer to 35°C.
Across much of the country, humidity is expected to add between 2°C and 4°C to perceived temperatures. In northern Upper Egypt, highs are forecast to range between 37°C and 41°C through Sunday, with the heat index reaching around 43°C on some days.
The authority also expects winds to pick up from Wednesday and has forecast a 20% chance of light rain across parts of the north-western coast. Morning mist is anticipated on some agricultural and coastal roads stretching from northern Egypt towards Greater Cairo, the Canal cities, central Sinai and northern Upper Egypt, potentially reducing visibility in places.
