Grand Egyptian Museum Reaches Four Million Visitors Since Opening
Visitor numbers are rising with the new tourist season, while conservation equipment and global partnerships are also being prepared.
The Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza has recorded around four million visitors since its official opening in November 2025, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The figure covers visits through the end of August and was presented during a meeting of the museum authority’s board at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation. The ministry said visitor numbers have begun increasing with the start of the new tourist season.
Grand Egyptian Museum Authority CEO Ahmed Ghoneim also reviewed recent activity at the museum, including visits by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his spouse Entissar El-Sisi, as well as Chinese President Xi Jinping and his spouse Peng Liyuan during an official visit to Cairo in early September.
The board also approved the acceptance of humidity-monitoring equipment donated by France under an Egyptian-French antiquities cooperation project. The devices will be used in exhibition halls to track environmental conditions around archaeological artefacts.
Officials were also briefed on memoranda of understanding being prepared with international universities and archaeological museums.
Located near the Pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum displays thousands of artefacts, including more than 5,000 pieces from the tomb of Tutankhamun shown together in a single hall.
