Egypt's Cabinet Ends Sunday Work From Home System
The system was part of government measures aimed at reducing electricity and fuel consumption amid regional economic pressures.
Egypt’s Cabinet has ended the country’s Sunday work-from-home system, bringing an end to the six-month arrangement and restoring regular workplace schedules for employees covered by the policy.
During its meeting on Wednesday, September 30th, the Cabinet approved suspending Prime Ministerial Decree No. 982 of 2026, which had allowed eligible employees to work remotely every Sunday. The decision follows the latest extension of the policy through September, meaning the arrangement will no longer continue into October.
Introduced in April, the Sunday remote-work system was part of government measures aimed at reducing electricity and fuel consumption amid regional economic pressures. It was repeatedly extended throughout the year, most recently for September.
The policy applied to employees whose roles could be performed remotely, while sectors and positions requiring physical attendance were excluded. With the latest Cabinet decision, covered employees are set to return to their usual Sunday work schedules.
