Emergency Vehicles in Abu Dhabi Now Record Violations
The upgrade supports faster response times, real-time monitoring, and stricter enforcement of right-of-way rules.
Emergency vehicles in Abu Dhabi have been equipped with smart cameras to detect and document motorists who obstruct their movement, with footage transmitted directly to operations centres managed by Abu Dhabi Police.
The system has been deployed across firefighting, ambulance, and rescue fleets and is intended to improve access to incident sites while enhancing overall road safety.
According to officials, the cameras enable real-time monitoring of traffic conditions, helping emergency teams coordinate with relevant authorities to identify alternative routes and reduce response times. The system is also integrated with operations room technologies to support rapid decision-making and the opening of emergency lanes when required.
The cameras can detect and document violations through visual recordings linked directly to control centres, supporting enforcement and field deployment planning. Authorities said the initiative also aims to raise awareness among motorists about the importance of giving way to emergency vehicles.
Failing to yield remains a serious traffic offence, carrying a AED 3,000 fine, 30 days of vehicle impoundment, and six black points. Drivers may move aside carefully, including at traffic signals if necessary, provided public safety is maintained.
The upgrade forms part of the “Don’t Hesitate… Give Way Immediately” campaign, launched in cooperation with Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and the Integrated Transport Centre, aimed at reinforcing road safety awareness and encouraging prompt response from motorists.
