Egypt's Foreign Minister: Dr Diaa El Din Shalaby Died of Heart Attack

The death of Egyptian doctor Dr Diaa El Din Shalaby in Dubai was caused by a sudden heart attack, with no suspicion of criminal activity, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry said the conclusion was based on an official medical report issued by authorities in the United Arab Emirates, which was received by the Egyptian consulate general in Dubai.

Procedures are currently underway to repatriate the body to Egypt following the incident, which occurred days earlier at a hotel in the emirate.

Officials had previously described the circumstances surrounding the death as unclear, with the consulate directed to coordinate with Emirati authorities to determine the cause and expedite the return process.

The ministry said the consular sector has since informed the family of the findings and remains in contact with their legal representative.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Ambassador Haddad El-Gohary is scheduled to meet with the family to complete the necessary procedures and offer condolences.

Shalaby had been the subject of regulatory action in recent months over medical content published on social media.

In March, the Ministry of Health closed two clinics he owned in Cairo’s Nasr City and Nozha districts and revoked his licence following a decision by the Egyptian Doctors Syndicate to remove his membership.

The syndicate said investigations found that he had promoted medical advice not supported by scientific evidence, including claims related to diabetes, cancer and other conditions.

His online content, which had amassed more than one million followers, drew criticism from medical professionals.
