Deadline Extended for Foreign Residents to Legalise Status
Foreign nationals under Egypt’s host system now have an extra year to regularise residency after the September 12th deadline.
The deadline for foreign nationals residing illegally in Egypt under the host system to regularise their status has been extended by one year, following cabinet approval of a draft decision.
The previous deadline had been set for September 12th, 2026.
Under requirements introduced in August 2023, foreigners without valid residence permits can legalise their status by paying a USD 1,000 fee and submitting documentation from an Egyptian host.
Those who do not complete the regularisation process will lose access to services provided by state institutions to foreign residents.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has previously cited official estimates indicating that more than 10 million foreigners from several countries currently reside in Egypt.
