7.9 Million New Internet Users Registered in Egypt in 2025

Egypt added 7.9 million mobile internet users in 2025, while mobile data consumption increased 12% year-on-year, according to figures released by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority.

Fixed internet usage rose by 36% over the same period, alongside around one million additional fixed-line internet subscribers. The figures were included in the regulator’s latest monitoring of internet application usage over a 24-hour period.

Entertainment recorded some of the sharpest increases. Short-form video platforms attracted 42.6 million users, who collectively watched around 14.6 million hours per day, representing a 60% year-on-year increase. Streaming platforms reached 52.4 million viewers and 43.7 million viewing hours daily, up 67%.

Live streaming also expanded, with around 13,300 content creators producing 4,600 hours of live video each day, an increase of 35%.

General web browsing and downloads remained the most widely used online activity, reaching 65.6 million users and generating 187.5 billion daily visits, up 12%. Search engines recorded 55 million users and around 64.1 billion daily searches, representing a 13% increase.

Social media platforms were used by 54.3 million people and generated 25.2 billion daily visits, up 5%. Messaging applications reached 34.8 million users, with around 471.8 billion instant messages exchanged each day, a 6% increase.

E-commerce platforms attracted 29.8 million users and recorded 10.5 million visits per day, up 10%, while map searches reached 22.6 million users and 46.2 million daily searches, increasing 29%.

Online gaming engaged 31 million users for around 1.8 million hours per day, up 21%. Remote meetings for work and education reached 6.5 million users, with total usage amounting to 159.5 million hours daily, a 7% increase.

Email services, meanwhile, recorded 16 million users sending approximately 14.2 million messages per day, up 12%.
