7.9 Million More People Used Mobile Internet in Egypt in 2025
Entertainment apps led growth, with short video use up 60% and streaming up 67%, while social media rose 5% and search 13% year on year.
Over 7.9 million new Egyptians began to use mobile internet services in 2025, according to data from the National Telecom Regulatory Authority, reflecting continued growth in digital connectivity and online activity.
Mobile data consumption rose by 12% year-on-year on the 2026 monitoring day, while fixed internet usage increased by 36%, supported by the addition of around one million new fixed-line subscribers.
Entertainment platforms recorded the fastest growth. Short-form video applications attracted 42.6 million users, generating approximately 14.6 million viewing hours daily, marking a 60% increase.
Streaming services reached 52.4 million users, with daily viewing time totalling 43.7 million hours, up 67%. Other services also saw increased activity.
Email platforms recorded 16 million users sending around 14.2 million messages daily, while map search services reached 22.6 million users with 46.2 million daily searches. E-commerce platforms attracted 29.8 million users, logging approximately 10.5 million visits per day.
General web browsing remained the most widely used service, with 65.6 million users generating 187.5 billion daily visits, up 12%. Social media platforms recorded 54.3 million users and 25.2 billion daily visits, while search engines were used by 55 million users conducting 64.1 billion daily searches.
Online gaming activity involved 31 million users, producing around 1.8 million hours of gameplay per day. Messaging applications recorded 34.8 million users exchanging approximately 471.8 billion instant messages daily.
Live streaming also expanded, with 13,300 content creators producing around 4,600 hours of live video per day. Remote work and education platforms reached 6.5 million users, with total usage amounting to 159.5 million hours daily.
