Ascent Opens New Maadi Gym for Egypt’s Rock Climbing Community

Ascent Climbing Egypt, the country’s first dedicated climbing facility, is taking their business to new heights with a new climbing gym in Maadi. Climbing and bouldering have been on a serious upward route globally, and Ascent has been leading the pitch locally since opening in 2021. When we spoke to co-founder Sherif Hafez earlier this year, he explained his mission to build a strong climbing community in Cairo — not just a place to train, but a place where people could chalk up, link up and level up. Today, regular competitions, training sessions and events have made Ascent a central anchor point for climbers across the city.
