These World-Famous Restaurants Are Coming to Egypt's North Coast

The modern restaurant has become increasingly untethered from its address. The world's most sought-after kitchens now travel almost as frequently as the diners who chase them, appearing for a weekend in Tokyo, a residency in Copenhagen, or a takeover in the Mediterranean before returning home again. What was once a meal tied to a postcode has become something more fluid - a cultural exchange carried by chefs, ingredients and ideas. Egypt has largely watched that movement from afar. This summer, it joins the conversation.

Beginning July 29th, WHEN WE EAT at Ramla by Marakez returns with a second season that expands last year's signature dinner series into Egypt's first global restaurant residency programme. Hosted at Moga, Ramla's beachside restaurant, the series will unfold over three consecutive weeks as internationally celebrated restaurants temporarily relocate to Ras El Hekma, bringing not simply guest chefs but the identities, rituals and signatures that have made them destinations in their own right.

The residency series, created by FR Ventures — the platform behind Cairo Food Week and WHEN WE EAT at Ramla— reflects a broader ambition that has quietly shaped Egypt's contemporary food scene over the past several years. Rather than asking Egyptians to travel in search of the world's most exciting restaurants, it asks those restaurants to come here, placing the country's North Coast within an increasingly international conversation about destination dining."The world's most exciting restaurants are destinations in themselves. With the second season of WHEN WE EAT at Ramla we're bringing three of those 'destinations' to the North Coast of Egypt. Each week, Ramla becomes home to a different restaurant people would normally have to travel to experience. First comes Arca, chef José Luis Hinostroza's fire-led restaurant from Tulum, ranked No. 22 on Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants 2025, bringing its open-fire cooking to Moga from July 29th to August 2nd. Kinoya, chef Neha Mishra's Michelin Bib Gourmand ramen house and No. 2 on MENA's 50 Best Restaurants 2026, follows from August 11th to 15th, before Three Bros—the bistronomy concept from the family behind Dubai's Michelin-starred Orfali Bros, three-time No. 1 on MENA's 50 Best Restaurants—takes over from August 20th to 25th. Throughout WHEN WE EAT at Ramla, each residency will be served at Moga across lunch from 3pm to 6pm and dinner from 7pm to 10pm, with reservations available through Moga's reservation desk.

The idea feels particularly apt at Ramla. As MARAKEZ welcomes its first residential community to the 400-acre destination this summer, WHEN WE EAT at Ramla treats hospitality not as an amenity but as part of the architecture of place itself. For one week at a time, restaurants that ordinarily require flights to Tulum, Dubai or London will instead overlook Ras El Hekma's tidal lagoon from Moga, inviting diners to experience them against an entirely different landscape."As Ramla welcomes more people every summer, we're focused on creating memorable experiences that bring the community together.
