University Hospitals to Join Egypt's Universal Health Insurance System
The integration aims to expand healthcare capacity and align university hospitals with the national Universal Health Insurance System.
University hospitals are set to be integrated into the Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS) in successive phases nationwide, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.
The ministry stated that the inclusion of university hospitals positions them as a central partner in developing a comprehensive healthcare framework designed to deliver equitable and high-quality services across the country.
The integration was discussed during a coordination meeting between Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa.
The meeting focused on establishing mechanisms for incorporating university hospitals into the UHIS across its implementation phases.
Officials reviewed operational capacities, financing mechanisms, and administrative integration to align service standards and prepare institutions for participation in the system.
The discussion also examined outcomes from the first phase of the Universal Health Insurance System, which currently covers Luxor, Aswan, Ismailia, Suez, Port Said, and South Sinai.
University hospitals are expected to contribute advanced medical infrastructure, specialised services, and academic expertise to the system as it expands.
Authorities stated that coordination between the two ministries aims to support more efficient use of resources and strengthen healthcare service delivery through unified standards.
The Universal Health Insurance System is being implemented through a phased national rollout designed to expand healthcare coverage and integrate public healthcare providers under a unified framework.
