Aviation sector on high readiness as emergency corridors open and phased flight increases begin.
The UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism said on Tuesday March 3rd that the country’s aviation sector is operating under heightened alert and emergency plans have been activated.
In an official statement, Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri said: “The UAE aviation sector operates under high readiness and clear proactive plans.”
He added that “continuous coordination is underway between the General Civil Aviation Authority and all partners to assess developments,” and that “regional emergency plans have been activated in coordination with GCC states and the International Civil Aviation Organization.”
The ministry said current operational capacity stands at “48 flights per hour through emergency corridors,” with capacity to be increased progressively in line with safety assessments.
“Limited operations have commenced to facilitate the return of affected passengers,” the statement said, adding that since March 1st, 17,498 passengers have been transported on 60 flights.
“The next phase includes 80 daily flights carrying more than 27,000 passengers,” it added. The state is covering accommodation and subsistence costs for affected passengers.
Passengers were requested not to proceed to airports until contacted directly by airlines.
