This is What Alexandria's Upgraded Tramway Will Look Like
Retaining the tram's distinctive blue-and-white colours, the project will significantly upgrade its passenger capacity.
The Alexandria Governorate's office has recently published some updates on the ongoing upgrades of the city's tramline from Raml Station to Victoria, releasing new images showing the design of the tram cars and stations once works are completed. According to the governorate, the project will preserve the identity of Alexandria’s iconic tram system.
The upgrades apply only to the Raml–Victoria line and do not include the older city tram routes serving areas such as Ras El Tin and Moharram Bek. The new tram cars will be air-conditioned and will maintain the traditional blue-and-white colour scheme associated with the network.
Visuals shared by the governorate also illustrate the design of the elevated stations planned along the route. Once completed, the upgraded line is expected to increase daily passenger capacity from around 80,000 to approximately 220,000 passengers.
The project will also significantly improve operating speeds, which previously did not exceed 11 km/h, reducing journey times on the roughly 13-kilometre route that currently take more than an hour.
