Suez Canal Authority Reveals Egypt's First Locally Built Luxury Yacht
The 37-metre, 135-tonne yacht is the first output of a new joint venture with Red Sea Shipyard Company.
The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has unveiled Egypt’s first locally built luxury yacht, marking a milestone in the country’s maritime manufacturing sector. The 37-metre vessel is the debut build of the Suez Canal for Modern Boats Company, a new joint venture between the SCA and the Red Sea Shipyard Company.
Carrying the “Made in Egypt” label, the yacht weighs 135 tonnes, has a beam of 8.2 metres, and is built in a Sport Fisherman configuration. Powered by MTU engines delivering a total of 2,600 horsepower, it features a main suite, four guest cabins, and four crew cabins.
The yacht also includes dual front hydraulic units for multi-purpose winch operations and a rear hydraulic platform for swimming access. Work is also underway on fibreglass production facilities in the Safaga industrial zone, alongside projects to construct yachts and leisure boats for both tourism and transport.
The Suez Canal for Modern Boats Company is developing several additional projects aimed at boosting marine tourism. The newly launched yacht was designed by U.S.-based Fryco Yachts, with interiors by Georges Vafiadis, and is being built under the supervision of Italian classification society RINA.
Company CEO Mostafa El-Degheishy added that construction has begun on an 18-metre yacht, with a fibreglass mould now in development to enable future serial production once the factory becomes fully operational. The company is also building two 17-metre leisure boats with a 15-passenger capacity for the SCA, as well as a 25-passenger Nile Taxi designed for river tourism.
