Sphinx Airport Upgraded for 1.2 Million Annual Passengers
The upgrade aligns with the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum on November 1st, for which the airport is positioned as a strategic gateway.

Sphinx International Airport (SPX), located in Giza and serving the western side of Cairo, has been upgraded to handle 1.2 million passengers annually, according to announcements by the Minister of Civil Aviation. The renovation spans 24,000 m² and includes 26 check-in counters, two self-service kiosks, three baggage carousels, 10 passport control counters, seven departure gates and six arrival gates. The airport now features nine aircraft stands, parking for 400 cars and 20 buses, and a 550-capacity mosque. Advanced systems such as an instrument landing system (ILS) and modern control tower have been installed to align with international standards. Since the start of its trial operations, the facility has seen rapid growth. Between January and October 2025, it handled over one million passengers, compared to 852,660 during the same period in 2024 — a 21 % increase. The upgrade aligns with the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum on November 1st, for which the airport is positioned as a strategic gateway.
