Smart Lighting Installed on Abu Dhabi Bridges
The works include decorative lighting on Yas Bridge and Ghantoot Bridge that can be set to multi-colour schemes.
Abu Dhabi City Municipality, under the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has completed lighting upgrades on a number of key vehicular and pedestrian bridges using smart systems with remote management and control technologies to support energy efficiency and sustainability. The works include decorative lighting on Yas Bridge and Ghantoot Bridge that can be remotely controlled and set to multi-colour schemes tailored to national and community events throughout the year. Upgrades also cover the Bani Yas Pedestrian Bridge and the pedestrian bridge opposite Abu Dhabi University, where programmable systems enable coordinated lighting designs aligned with the surrounding environment and architectural sustainability standards. According to Abu Dhabi City Municipality, the smart lighting contributes to improved road safety and enhanced nighttime visibility while supporting the emirate’s sustainability framework by increasing energy efficiency and reducing emissions through high‑efficiency equipment and programmable control and management technologies. The project aims to create nighttime corridors along roads and bridges, reinforce the city’s visual identity, and align infrastructure upgrades with international standards.
