Sharjah Issues Ramadan Daytime Food Preparation & Display Permits
Restaurants and food retailers in Sharjah can apply for daytime Ramadan permits, with set fees and hygiene conditions.
Sharjah Municipality has begun issuing permits allowing restaurants, cafeterias and food retailers to prepare and display food during daytime hours in Ramadan, subject to specific conditions and fees.
The food preparation permit applies to kitchens and food outlets, including those located inside shopping centres. It allows cooking during fasting hours but prohibits dine-in service. Preparation and cooking must remain confined to designated kitchen areas. The fee for this permit is AED 3,000.
A separate permit allows businesses such as restaurants, cafeterias, sweet shops and bakeries to display food before iftar outside their premises. This permit is priced at AED 500. Displayed items must be placed in enclosed glass cases at least one metre (100 cm) high, use food-grade packaging, and be stored at appropriate temperatures.
The permits are designed to ensure hygienic handling and safe food storage. Regulations require food to be placed in stainless steel containers and displayed in airtight glass boxes fitted with sliding or hinged doors. Items must be covered with aluminium foil or transparent food-grade plastic and maintained at suitable temperatures.
Applications for both permits are submitted through the municipality’s commercial licensing portal.
