Distance Learning Extended Across UAE Schools Until April 17th
Remote learning will continue across UAE schools until mid-April under revised guidance.
Distance learning across nurseries, kindergartens and all public and private schools in the UAE will continue until Friday, April 17th, 2026, under updated guidance from the Ministry of Education.
The decision applies to students, teachers and administrative staff, with authorities stating that the arrangement will be reviewed on a weekly basis, prioritising safety and wellbeing.
Remote learning was first introduced on March 2nd and extended at the start of Term 3 on March 23rd, following the advancement of the spring break due to regional tensions. A previous plan had set distance learning to continue until April 3rd, pending review.
The latest extension keeps all age groups learning remotely until at least mid-April.
Schools following Indian and Pakistani curricula in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates began the 2026–27 academic year online, after directives from the Sharjah Private Education Authority and other regulators. Some institutions held preparatory sessions to support students and parents ahead of remote learning.
Private schools may apply to resume on-site learning by submitting formal requests, with each case assessed individually and referred to the Ministry of Education for approval.
At the higher education level, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in coordination with the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council, has permitted a phased return to campus for programmes requiring practical training, including clinical, laboratory and field-based components. Examinations may also be conducted on campus.
Some universities have opted to remain fully remote, including American University of Sharjah, American University of Ras Al Khaimah and American University in Dubai, which confirmed that classes and operations continue online.
