Saudi Aramco Halts Ras Tanura Operations After Drone Strike

Saudi Aramco temporarily shut down its Ras Tanura refinery - capable of processing 550,000 barrels per day - after a drone strike Monday morning sparked a small, contained fire. Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry spokesperson told Al Arabiya TV that two drones targeting the facility were successfully intercepted, and that any fire at the refinery was limited to falling debris. No civilian injuries were reported.

The strike comes amid Iran’s broader retaliation campaign following US-Israeli military strikes on Iranian territory launched February 28.

Ras Tanura is the second piece of Aramco’s eastern infrastructure hit in days, after the company declared force majeure on LPG exports from its nearby Juaymah terminal on February 26.

Despite the turmoil, Aramco’s stock rose 3.37% on March 1 as oil prices surged with Barclays raising its Brent forecast to $100 a barrel while the wider Saudi Tadawul index fell over two percent.
