Saudi Arabia Ranks Third in Advanced AI Model Development
Saudi Arabia follows the United States and China in language model development and ranks eighth for public awareness and scientific citations, per the 2025 index.
Saudi Arabia ranked third worldwide in advanced artificial intelligence model development and in the growth rate of jobs related to artificial intelligence, according to the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence’s 2025 AI Index. The Kingdom follows only the United States and China in language model development, placing it among the world’s top countries across several artificial intelligence categories.
The index notes that Saudi Arabia trails India and Brazil in employment growth within the artificial intelligence sector, placing third globally on that measure. It also places Saudi Arabia seventh in attracting artificial intelligence talent. The country ranks eighth worldwide in public awareness of artificial intelligence and in the volume of specialised scientific citations.
The findings are presented within the context of ongoing national efforts under Vision 2030 and programmes led by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority to develop research capability and an innovation environment for data and emerging technologies. The index highlights the Kingdom’s capacity to produce advanced systems and notes “Alam,” an Arabic-language generative model, among current outputs. National programmes include the “Samai” initiative, which aims to train one million Saudis in artificial intelligence.
