Seven New Abu Dhabi Mosques Named After Emirates for Eid Al Etihad
The mosques in Mohamed bin Zayed City can host around 6,000 worshippers, and are set to open in January.
Seven mosques in Abu Dhabi’s Mohamed bin Zayed City will be named after the UAE’s individual emirates, following directives issued ahead of the 54th Eid Al Etihad celebration. The decision was endorsed by the Presidential Court and coordinated with the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat and the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi. Collectively, the new mosques — covering an area of approximately 12,000 square metres — will accommodate around 6,000 worshippers. Construction has been completed, and the facilities are scheduled to open for worshippers in January 2026. The design of the mosques blends modern architectural elements with traditional Islamic art and heritage influences. Officials say the project reflects a commitment to both spiritual values and contemporary urban development. The renaming initiative forms part of the UAE’s broader Eid Al Etihad programme, which carries the theme “United” this year.
