New Standards Issued for Juice Shops in Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing approved new regulatory requirements for juice shops to raise compliance levels, strengthen food safety, and ensure proper preparation, storage, and serving practices across the sector.

The rules set planning criteria for locations of shops and kiosks, restricting operations to approved commercial zones or existing commercial centres. Kiosks are barred from entrances or crowded areas unless a minimum distance of six metres is maintained, and any installation in mall parking areas requires municipal approval.

Operationally, the regulations require clearly separated areas for preparation, serving, and storage to maintain cleanliness and prevent cross-contamination during beverage preparation. A preventive framework mandates a clear list of products, ingredients, and potential allergens, and prohibits serving any beverage without accurate information on preparation time and components. Shops must follow recommended refrigeration conditions and are prohibited from displaying or selling products that do not meet Saudi Food and Drug Authority specifications.

Customer information and service standards include visible informational signage with the unified Saudi Business Centre QR code and a clear price list, in addition to the constant availability of electronic payment options. Waste management requirements stipulate sealed, clean containers and a separate waste collection area away from preparation zones.

The ministry stated it will continue updating municipal requirements across commercial and service activities as part of ongoing efforts to improve public health and enhance service quality in Saudi cities.
