Life Imprisonment for Offender in Damanhour Child Sexual Assault Case

An 80-year-old school employee has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting a six-year-old student, Yassin, at a private school in Beheira Governorate. The verdict was handed down during the first session of the trial by the Damanhour Criminal Court.

The perpetrator, Sabry K.G.A., who worked as a financial supervisor at a school under the Damanhour Educational Administration, was convicted of molesting the child, a case that has drawn national attention and sparked widespread public outrage.

Dozens of citizens rallied outside the courthouse to support Yassin and his family, holding signs and chanting for justice.

Egypt’s National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) had appointed a legal team to represent the child and his family, ensuring their rights were protected throughout the judicial process. The Ministry of Education confirmed in a statement on Monday that the case remains under legal review and that coordination with the school’s ownership and legal team will continue until the verdict is finalised.

Yassin’s mother first reported the assault nearly a year ago. A forensic medical report confirmed the child had been subjected to repeated abuse. However, the case was initially shelved in February 2025 due to inconclusive police findings.

During a confrontation session, the child was able to identify the accused in the first two rounds but not in later ones, leading to the case being closed a second time. An appeal was later filed with the Public Prosecutor, who ordered the investigation reopened, ultimately resulting in the life sentence.
