Egypt has been ranked first in the Arab world for average books read per person annually, according to new data published by World Population Review. Egyptians read an average of 5.41 books in 2024, equivalent to about 121 hours of reading over the year. The measure covers reading across print, e‑books, and audiobooks. World Population Review’s dataset compares the average number of books read per person and annual hours spent reading in 2024. The United States leads with 17 books and about 357 hours, followed by India with 16 books and 352 hours, the United Kingdom with 15 books and 343 hours, France with 14 books and 305 hours, and Italy with 13 books and 278 hours. Egypt ranked 38th globally on the same metric.
