Dubai & Abu Dhabi Hotels Told to Extend Stays for Stranded Guests
Dubai and Abu Dhabi instruct hotels to keep guests affected by flight disruptions accommodated.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi have issued directives to hotels to extend stays for guests unable to travel home following widespread flight disruptions caused by regional airspace closures and airport suspensions.
Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism instructed hotel managers to allow affected guests to remain under the same terms as their original bookings, prioritising visitor welfare and avoiding sudden displacement. Properties are also asked to report cases quickly to the department.
In Abu Dhabi, the Department of Culture and Tourism has gone further, confirming that the government will cover accommodation costs for guests who have reached their check-out dates but cannot depart due to circumstances beyond their control. The circular asks hotels to extend stays and submit invoices directly to the department for reimbursement.
The move aims to safeguard the wellbeing of international visitors affected by travel disruptions, ensuring they are not forced to vacate rooms during uncertain travel conditions.
