Beyond the Artefacts: GEM Spotlights Its Staff
Collectively, the team that brought GEM to life reflected on how a blueprint became reality.
Since its record-breaking opening in November 2025, the Grand Egyptian Museum has been making headlines across the globe for showing the world many firsts. It’s the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilisation and it displays over 100,000 artefacts – some of which had never been displayed before.
These facts and figures have been reiterated endlessly, but what sometimes is forgotten, despite being equally awe-inspiring, are the hands and minds that made the Grand Egyptian Museum the impressive monument it is regarded as today.
After three months of successful operation, the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority (GEMA) brought together its employees – archaeologists, restoration professionals, archivists – for a celebration recognising their efforts in making what was once a dream an impressive reality.
Collectively, the team that brought GEM to life reflected on how a blueprint became reality, how worry became a pride shared by an entire country, and how the journey is far from over.
