Benha University Launches First Addiction Psychology Program
Launching in 2025, Benha University’s new program in Addiction Psychology is the first of its kind in the region, offering rigorous academic and practical training in prevention and treatment.

Benha University has announced the launch of a new undergraduate program in Addiction Psychology, set to begin in the 2025/2026 academic year. The program, introduced by the Faculty of Arts, is the first of its kind in the Middle East to award a specialised Bachelor's degree in Addiction Psychology and Therapeutic Methods. It follows a credit-hour system and includes 144 credit hours, designed to equip students with academic and practical expertise in addiction prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Developed in line with international research and best practices, the program forms part of Egypt’s national strategy to combat drug abuse. The initiative is implemented under the auspices of the President and in collaboration with several ministries and relevant agencies.
Graduates of the program will be trained through application programs at Azima centres affiliated with the Addiction Treatment and Abuse Fund, with priority given to them for employment at these centres or in the fund’s national prevention programs.
Admission to the program is open to students enrolled in the Faculty of Arts at Benha University or other equivalent faculties in Egypt. Second-year students from other faculties may apply if their high school scores qualify them for Arts faculty admission and they are willing to begin the program at Level 1. International applicants and those with equivalent high school certificates may apply under standard Faculty of Arts regulations.
All applicants must pass a personal interview conducted by a joint committee from Benha University and the Addiction Treatment and Abuse Fund. The program is restricted to general secondary school graduates; university degree holders are not eligible for enrolment.
