Al Quoz Drainage Network Phase One Completed in Dubai
The project covers 155 hectares with new sewer and stormwater infrastructure.
Dubai Municipality has completed the first phase of a sewerage and stormwater drainage network in Al Quoz Creative Zone, covering a former industrial area near Sheikh Zayed Road. The initial phase spans 155 hectares and 123 plots, with a total cost of AED 250 million. It includes 15 kilometres of sewerage networks and 14 kilometres of stormwater drainage infrastructure.
The works form part of a broader AED 30 billion sewerage development programme, described by the municipality as the region’s largest unified stormwater collection system, designed to increase drainage capacity by 700% over the next century. The wider Al Quoz project will extend across industrial areas 1 to 4 and the area between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, covering around 1,600 hectares and more than 1,500 plots, with a total project cost of AED 500 million.
Marwan bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said the project is intended to enhance infrastructure efficiency, resilience and readiness to address future climatic conditions.
The development follows a series of infrastructure investments aimed at strengthening the emirate’s drainage capacity after record rainfall in April 2024 led to widespread flooding.
In February 2026, contracts worth AED 2.5 billion were awarded for five drainage expansion projects, following earlier awards of AED 1.4 billion in April 2025.
