Misr Digital Innovation Transforms into onebank Ahead of 2026 Launch

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has granted approval for Misr Digital Innovation (MDI) to transition into onebank, the country’s first fully digital bank, ahead of its launch.
Founded in 2020 with Banque Misr as its main shareholder, MDI was created to accelerate digital banking adoption. onebank is expected to officially launch its services to the public in 2026 following final regulatory approval.
According to onebank, the institution will focus on financial inclusion, security, and accessibility, aiming to provide seamless banking experiences powered by advanced technologies. The bank is designed to serve customers anytime, anywhere, aligning with the country’s digital growth strategy.
The transition is also accompanied by the appointment of a new leadership team. Eng. Khaled El Attar, a veteran in technology and digital transformation with over 35 years of experience, has been named Chairman. Sherif ElBehery, who spearheaded the establishment of MDI, will serve as CEO and Managing Director.
The newly formed board of directors brings together experts in law, finance, technology, and entrepreneurship. Notable members include Anwar Zeidan of Zulficar & Partners, Amal Enan of 500 Global, Dr. Ayman Ismail of AUC Venture Lab, and Dr. Nada Elshazly, an economics and fintech specialist.
