Khaldoon Al Mubarak Named Chair of International Business Council
The CEO of Mubadala and City Football Group becomes the first Chair of WEF’s primary private-sector advisory from the MENA region.
Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the Managing Director and Group CEO of Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Investment Company, has been named the new Chair of the World Economic Forum’s International Business Council (IBC), becoming the first person from the MENA region to assume the position. Announced at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, Al Mubarak succeeds Salesforce CEO, Marc Benioff, in leading the organisation, which is made up of 100 global CEOs and acts as WEF’s primary private-sector advisory group.
Al Mubarak is widely recognised as the Chairman of City Football Group, where he oversaw transformation of English football club, Manchester City, into a global sporting and commercial dynasty.
In addition, Al Mubarak led the UAE’s nuclear energy program as Chairman of ENEC, and oversees Emirates Global Aluminium, one of the world’s largest producers. He also serves as the Secretary General of the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC) and Vice-Chair of MGX, the newly formed $30 billion AI investment vehicle.
Credited as a central architect of Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification, Al Mubarak boasts an impressive track record as a dealmaker and strategist. Since taking the helm of Mubadala in 2002, he has transformed the sovereign into a $330 billion global powerhouse with assets in over 50 countries. Al Mubarak will hold the position of Chair for two years.
