This season’s cinematic lineup is as diverse as ever, from lighthearted comedies perfect for a New Year giggle to bold narratives that confront social issues.

Here’s a list of Egyptian films to watch out for this winter break…

My Father’s Scent | Dir. Mohamed SiamPreviously winning prizes at the Brussels Mediterranean Film Festival, Gouna Film Festival, and Red Sea Film Festival, Mohamed Siam’s film finally reaches cinemas. Starring Ahmed Malek and Kamal El Basha, it centres on a strained father-son relationship pushed to a reckoning over the course of a single night, where unresolved memories and long-held resentments surface with little room for escape.

Al Molhed | Dir. Mohamed Al AdlPreviously barred from release, Mohamed Al Adl’s film arrives in cinemas at the end of the year. Led by Ahmed Hatem, it tackles questions of belief, extremism, and social response head-on, framing its debate within contemporary Egyptian realities.

Khareetet Ras Al Sana | Dir. Ramy El GendyWhen their father dies and their mother disappears, siblings Samah, a young woman with Down syndrome, and her younger brother Asser are left to navigate the city alone. En Ghab Al Qott | Dir. Sarah NouhFollowing a museum heist of a famous painting, conflict erupts among the gang members. Amid the chaos, an unexpected love story unfolds between the main characters, played by Asser Yassin and Asmaa Galal.
