AlUla Studios Taps Global Powerhouse MBS Group to Lead Operations
Saudi Arabia’s landmark film hub teams up with The MBS Group to bring blockbuster expertise and build local talent.
MBS MENA Limited, the regional division of global production leader The MBS Group, has signed an exclusive agreement with Film AlUla to operate the Saudi film hub’s studio complex, AlUla Studios. The deal marks the first partnership of its kind in the Middle East, linking a Saudi production site directly with a studio group whose network spans over 50 facilities worldwide — and whose résumé includes blockbusters like ‘Avatar’.
Through this partnership, AlUla Studios will not only offer technical capabilities on par with the world’s top production hubs, but also introduce advanced infrastructure such as virtual production technologies and volumetric stages.
Beyond its ambitions for cutting-edge filmmaking, the project also prioritises building a local workforce. Training programmes will target Saudi nationals, especially those from AlUla, equipping them with the technical and managerial skills needed to participate in large-scale productions. Local suppliers and craftspeople are also expected to play key roles in preserving cultural authenticity across future film projects.
The studio complex itself is designed to accommodate major productions with ease. It features two soundstages exceeding 25,000 square feet each, more than 17,000 square feet of production support spaces, and specialist facilities for set construction, costumes, and backlot shooting. A full orchestral recording studio, rehearsal areas, offices, and event spaces round out the offering.
