AD: Somabay Hosts First ITF W50 Grass Court Tournament in Africa

Somabay just made history when it hosted the first-ever ITF W50 Grass Court Tournament on African soil, welcoming elite professional women's tennis players to S Tennis Academy at Soma Sports Arena from June 8th to 14th. It was a week of top-level competition with real stakes: international ranking points, grass court reps, and a direct runway to Wimbledon. The timing was deliberate. As part of the international grass court season, the tournament slotted in as a pre-Wimbledon preparation event — the kind of competitive stop that serious players use to sharpen their game on one of tennis's most demanding surfaces before the sport's most iconic major.  That Somabay was the host said something. It announced the destination as a legitimate stop on the international tennis circuit, and a venue capable of meeting the exacting standards of professional competition. Throughout the week, the tournament drew players, officials, media, partners, and spectators to the Red Sea, each of them experiencing a Wimbledon-style atmosphere that felt, by all accounts, far from accidental.  Soma Sports Arena's S Tennis Academy provided the infrastructure. Somabay's hospitality, lifestyle offering, and destination identity provided the rest. The result was a sporting event that worked on multiple levels: as a competitive platform for the players, as a showcase for Egypt's capacity to host international tennis, and as a statement about where Somabay is headed. The destination has been building a portfolio of elite sporting events, and this one landed differently — a continental first carries weight that a well-run regional tournament simply doesn't.
