Over the past week, the Middle East and North Africa’s rap scene has delivered a steady run of new releases, spanning classic trap, experimental cuts and laid-back hip-hop. In this week’s edition of ‘Rap of the Week’, we round up the standout drops, featuring picks from Wingz, Abyusif, Zaf and more.
Sudanese rap prodigy Wingz returns with the fast-paced, punchy ‘Kharej Al Netaq’, while Egyptian heavyweight Abyusif surprise-drops ‘Kfaya Awy Keda’, a laid-back trap cut with longtime collaborator Lil Baba.
Meanwhile, Amira Adeeb joins forces with Arsenik on ‘3ayzeen Mena Eh’, a playful take on artistic debates and rap battles. Moroccan rapper Abduh taps into classic Maghrebi hip-hop on ‘Mhuri Ba9a’, while anonymous Egyptian rapper Zaf pushes contemporary regional trap into darker, more progressive territory across his sprawling 24-track LP, ‘elza3albeymawet’.
